Yesterday my mom and I went into the city to preview the MET’s Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology exhibit. You know how the internet was obsessing over Vogue’s gala earlier this week? Well the gala was all about celebrating the opening of this year’s MET costume exhibit and it is seriously amazing.

Honestly, it was absolutely beautiful! The designs themselves were stunning, but the overall concept of juxtaposing fashions produced by hand and by machines was what made the exhibit so powerful. It was organized by art form so I was able to walk through different examples of hand made vs machine made tailoring, pleatwork, lacework, leatherwork, embroidery, featherwork and artificial flowers. After studying the history of Italian fashion this past semester in Florence, it was cool to see everything I studied first hand! During that class I studied the worlds of Prêt-á-Porter and Ready to Wear – couture made for a single individual and clothes made ready to order, respectively – fashions, which was a theme covered throughout the exhibition. The exhibit was also filled with designers that I studied such as Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, Mariano Fortuny,Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Raf Simons (for the House of Dior)…. Believe me, I could go on.

ANYWAY… at an end to my ramble, I urge you to definitely see the exhibit if you’ll be in the city this summer! It opens today and it will run through August 14th. If not W Magazine posted 66 of the designs on their website!

Below are a few of the photos I posted to Snapchat and Instagram yesterday while I was in the City…
