I was recently asked to write about how to transition your closet into spring and summer and it went up on Diamond’s Unleashed today! Here’s a peak at the post…

Spring transition 11

After a seemingly endless winter, we’re all antsy to transition into spring weather and spring fashion. Early spring and summer can be a beautiful, sunny break from a dreary winter. Or, like New Englander’s have noticed, it can be an extension of a cold winter. Regardless, it’s time for the sun to come out (please, please, please!) and for our closet to transition from winter into spring and summer.

Every year I’m thrilled when the cold winter weather breaks into a refreshing spring, but some years it can be harder to transition my closet when the weather isn’t cooperating with my warm weather wishes. However, there comes a time when the quilted winter parka is no longer acceptable and (thankfully) that time has come. Here are 5 tips that I live by for transitioning my closet into spring & summer…

1. Use spring colors to your advantage

Try dressing in spring colors, but in layers that work for the temperature! In this look I incorporated white jeans, tan stacked heels and a blue and white striped oxford. One of my favorite things to wear during the warmer months is a crisp white or striped button down so why not start wearing it now? With white jeans I was able to brighten up the look without having to sacrifice the practicality of dressing for the weather.

2. Incorporate spring and summer accessories

One of the easiest ways to transition to spring and summer fashion is through your accessories. Trade out your black shoes and bags for lighter and brighter alternatives! Even if the weather isn’t ready for your open-toe shoes, go for your chic flats, espadrilles or even sneakers. When the weather is questionable I always wear my white Nike leather sneakers because they’re cute, white and I can even wear socks with them if I’m cold.

3. Wear easy layers

On a cooler summer day, I’d wear this look in a heartbeat, but because it’s still chilly I opted to add a navy silk jacket to the look. With the jacket I can stay warmer, but I can easily ditch it if the sun comes out. Since weather this time of the year is unpredictable, it’s best to wear easy layers that you can either add or shed when the weather changes. Remember, denim is your friend! It’s warm, but with so many distressed, cropped and relaxed boyfriend styles, light washed denim is an easy and great transitional piece.

4. Always be able to add a light jacket or sweater

Throughout this spring I’ve worn my light denim jacket countless times. When I want to wear a spring day dress or top I just throw on my denim jacket or a light hued leather jacket and I’m good to go! Try and avoid wearing dresses or tops that you can’t pair a sweater or jacket with because they’re difficult to wear in the weeks of unpredictable weather.

5. Think spring with your nails and lip color

Another easy way to transition your look is through incorporating spring hued nails and lip colors. Right now I’m obsessed with Tom Ford’s Spanish Pink lipstick – it’s the perfect nude for spring!
